Portal de agua, 2022

Mapping water portal

In a visible surge, this monumental work captures the fluidity and force of water as sculptural matter. Rising to three meters in height, Portal de Agua unfolds as a vortex of curves and translucent plexiglass surfaces, evoking currents arrested in motion.

Mapping water portal

Originally installed outside the Auditorio San Pedro from 2021 to early 2025, the piece became Huacuja’s first public sculpture and the site of his inaugural “portal opening” performance. For the inauguration, an audiovisual production animated the work as if it were opening, before expanding across the entire façade of the building.

The portal suggests both movement and stillness: a solid mass that appears liquid, a heavy body that projects lightness. By translating the invisible dynamics of water into matter, the work resonates with Huacuja’s ongoing exploration of elemental forces as portals—sites where energy takes form and viewers are invited to cross into other cosmologies.
