This piece comes from a simple moment. I was in Morocco and took a photograph of a lamp projecting light through a perforated surface. What stayed with me was not the object itself, but how the light broke apart and spread across the space.

Back in the studio, the painting became a way of holding onto that experience. Instead of recreating the lamp, I worked with the idea of light as something that fragments, repeats, and moves. The surface builds itself through small events that expand outward, almost as if the image is being emitted rather than composed.

There is no single center. The painting operates more like a field, where different areas intensify and dissolve. It moves between control and accident, between drawing and painting, allowing the image to shift as it develops.

Looking at it now, it feels like an early step toward what comes later. The interest in light is already there, but still contained within the canvas. In more recent work, that same logic moves into space, where light stops being represented and becomes something that directly shapes the environment. This piece sits right at that transition.
