Developed in collaboration with Cuarzo Architecture Studio, Ofrenda was engineered as a monumental radial ceiling system of light integrated directly into the structural grid of the sanctuary. Moving away from the concept of isolated ornamentation, the installation is forcefully embedded into the building’s anatomy through four cruciform skylights, effectively transforming the overhead plane into an active, luminous envelope.
Spanning an architectural volume of over 100 square meters, the system deploys a rigorous chromatic matrix of warm ambers, ochres, golds, and subtle crimson gradients. This palette was calculated to establish a material dialogue with the surrounding tectonic finishes, specifically interacting with the native onyx stonework details. The installation operates through a dual atmospheric cycle.
Throughout the day, the system acts as a passive optical modulator, filtering natural solar radiation to produce shifting spectrums that transform in intensity according to celestial time. At night, the structure remains active through a dedicated low voltage architectural lighting network positioned above the glazing, allowing the work to permanently dictate the interior volume. While drawing conceptual inspiration from the historic solemnity of sanctuary architecture, Ofrenda rejects narrative illustration in favor of absolute spatial presence. The geometry constructs an immediate threshold of pause, contemplation, and calm.
Through this integration, light ceases to be a mere environmental condition and becomes an active, tactile component that orders, transforms, and softens the physical architecture.
